The Negev Bedouin

A Photographic Exhibit

Nourit Padon-Melcer

The Bedouin are nomadic people of Arab descent who live in desert areas in the Middle East. The following is a photographic display of some aspects in the life of Bedouin around Beer-Sheva.

The main focus of this exhibit is to display aspects of the transition of Bedouin from nomadic tribes to city dwellers, as part of an effort by the Israeli government to settle Bedouin in permanent settlements.

The faculty of Health Science at the Ben Gurion University is instrumental in providing health care to Bedouin still living in tents scattered around the Negev desert, and part of this exhibit is dedicated to the staff of the health care van which patrols the desert to provide medical attention to those who need it.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Internet site concerned with the Bedouin, and we will be delighted to receive more material, relevant to this exhibition.

All photography is by Nourit Minerbi-Padon, the web version created by Shlomi Codish.
