Research Interests

  • Research interests are centered on fundamental theoretical and numerical research in turbulence and fluid mechanics. A main current thrust is anisotropic turbulence in stratified and rotating flows. Particular aspects include:
    • Large-scale atmospheric and oceanic circulation
    • Anisotropic turbulence, jets and Rossby waves in planetary atmosphere
  • Work highlighted in:
  • Physics Today (Nov. 2002, p.9)
  • Physics News Update No. 603 (Sept. 9, 2002)
    • Turbulent flows with stable stratification
    • Spectral DNS/LES of 2D turbulence in plane and spherical geometries
    • MHD turbulent flows
    • Heat transfer enhancement in MHD flows
  • Re: The American Nuclear Society Award, 1988
    • MHD energy conversion systems
    • Multi-phase flows in porous media
    • Parallel scientific computing
    • Stochastic methods
  • Research Projects

    • Advanced Parameterization and Modeling of Atmospheric Boundary Layers
