Education

  • M.D. 1967 – 1973: Tajik State Medical Institute Ph.D. 1983-1988: Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, Leningrad Thesis title: Endocrine function of feto-placental complex during anemia.

Research Interests

  • "Prostate Cancer treatment" is the main issue I am working on. The approaches our group elaborate are: a) The use of less calcemic synthetic analogs of vitamin D, 1,24(S)(OH)2D2 and JK-1624-3), b) The combined use of the active metabolite of vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2D3, with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen and with histone deacetylase inhibitors, c) combination of 1,25(OH)2D3, histone deacetylase inhibitors and ionizing radiation in treatment of prostate cancer cells. "Vitamin A excretion in patients with kidney proximal tubule injury" is another issue of my research interests.

Research Projects

  • Intracellular signaling pathways responsible for the sensitization to ionizing radiation of prostate cancer cells pretreated with a combination of 1,25(OH)2D3 and sodium valproate

Research Topics

  • Combinations of the istone deacetlase inhibitor valproic acid wit chemoradioterapy for enhanced treatment and lung and pancreaic cancer
  • Enhanced anticancer treatment with the combination of vitamin D agents with the inhibitor of vitamin D catabolism ketoconazole and with the histone deacetylase inhibotor alproic acid

Existing collaborations

  • Prof. Samuel Ariad and Dr. Konstantin Lavrenkov, Dept. of Oncology, Soroka Medical Center - combination of the histone deacetylase inhibitor valproic acid with chemoradiotheraphy for enhanced anticancer therapy
  • Prof. Shraga Shany - enhanced anticancer treatment using combinatiion of vitamin D agents with histone deacetylase in inhibitors and inhibitors of vitamin D agents catabolisms
