Education

  • MD: Tel-Aviv University PhD: Weizmann Institute of Science Residency in Pediatrics: Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer Clinical Genetics and Post-doctorate: NIH Board ceritified in Pediatrics and in Clinical Genetics

Research Interests

  • Identification and characterization of the molecular basis of human diseases prevalent in inbred conanguineous societies, mainly in the Bedouin population of the Negev.
  • From linkage analysis to carrier testing and prenatal diagnosis – to generation and analysis of mouse models.

Research Topics

  • Identification of the molecular basis of monogenic human diseases
  • Molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and of eye diseases
  • Neural tube defects: from genes to molecular mechanisms male vs. female brain: molecular studies

Major expertise and techniques in the lab

  • Human genetics – clinical phenotyping
  • Whole exome sequencing analysis, linkage analysis
  • Bioinformatics: generation of our own tools (S2G, PLINKe) as well as using many existing tools.
  • Gene silencing in vitro (cell lines) and generation and analysis of mutant mice v.Biochemistry, molecular biology (protein, RNA, protein
